What I've Learned
This is the section I will be updating regularly as I stitch together the various, often jumbled pieces of my grandfather John Wheeler's tragic life story. The item serving as my Rosetta Stone is a journal he started in 1966 on his way to a secret base in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. Some of the journal pages are missing, others are frustratingly torn or smudged, but at least they give me some idea of the meaning behind the piles of photos, notes, postcards, Super 8 movies and other materials I have spread out all over my room.
The most recent updates will always be at the top of the page, so please start reading from the bottom post. I will try my best to present this information in a way that makes sense, but much of it is still a mystery to me. If you have any insights or ideas you feel make more sense, or if you know anyone who worked on Project Rainbow and would be willing to come forward and share what they know, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your time.

Nate Shiffer's final words - Thu, March 8, 2007
I got an email from DanteIL, who had just received an email from Nate Shiffer the very day he died--it must have been just hours before the tragedy occurred.
Someone clearly doesn't want us to know what M-A-R-A was up to, but I feel we must find out. We need to arm ourselves with information, especially if Painted Soul's contact has anything to do with all this, which I pray he doesn't.
If you have any ideas on accessing the other restricted directories on M-A-R-A.org, please post them on MHC. I also will be posting those film clips I mentioned last night shortly, which look like I could use some help with as well.
Here's DanteIL's email:
Matt,
I was shocked to see your report that you found Nate
Schiffer dead when you went to go visit him in
Florida. It just so happened that I received an email
from him today, right before he left to meet with you.
Here it is:

Hey man, sorry for the delay in getting back at you
from your latest email. My travel plans ending up
being snafu'd and only managed to get home this past
weekend. And even though this old man was never
happier to see the homestead, I still wasn't able to
relax. Seems some yahoo broke into my place while I
was gone and ransacked both my personal and the
M-A-R-A business stuff. So I've been dealing with the
police, the insurance company, and just way too much
goddamn red tape since then. They didn't take too
much, but I know there are some artifacts missing from
the M-A-R-A stuff, items either never claimed by the
contractor or stuff Ted, Frankie, or I grabbed while
on one of our jobs.
Yeah, I know that might sound weird but sometimes we
end up holding on to the items we've been asked to
recover, a couple of times in government contracts
where the contract was cancelled after we completed
our mission but before we could deliver the results,
and at least once when the guy who hired us turned up
dead before we could wrap up the assignment. Now that
I think of it, that's the same guy who hired us to go
into Haneda, that old airbase in Japan. He was a
reporter researching some secret government program
he'd thought he'd uncovered, and those documents were
part of his research. After that recovery, he
contracted us for a second gig, at Fort Detrick,
Maryland. That's what the FDMD stands for, and the
records file bit is probably the password Ted cooked
up for those files. The other part - the CLSRETEP -
was the guy's name,Peters, written backwards and
marked with LC for linked case. Again, that was just
the way Ted did things. In that case though, like I
said, the poor guy turned up dead by somewhat
mysterious circumstances if I recall correctly, before
we could turn over the stuff we had collected.
Hey, I've got to run. I'm meeting up with someone else
who's interested in this same stuff. I feel bad I've
put off the poor kid a couple times already with
coming home late and all the crap that's happened
since so I need to finally get together with him and
see what he wants. Well, I kind of know what he wants,
I mean, I've seen his website and all, just not sure
how I can help.
Gotta run.

I've been racking my brain trying to get into the FDMD
directory on MARA, with no luck. This guy "Peters"
who died (mysteriously!) while looking into the Genero
stuff seems to be yet another dead end, so to speak.
Something weird is going on here, man. Whoever stole
these latest MARA artifacts may have had something to
do with his death. I agree that it seems suspicious.
I wish that Nate could have told us more.
Be careful, man.
